CHIHAYA MARU - Class Auxiliary Transport


(TJISAROEA later CHIHAYA MARU, prewar)

CHIHAYA MARU was laid down as a 7,089-tons passenger/cargo ship and named TJISAROEA for NV Java-China-Japan Lijn, Batavia, D.E.I. She was completed in Jan ’26 and registered at Batavia. In Mar ‘42, she was captured by destroyer ARASHI SSE of Tjilatjap, Java. Renamed in Jun ’42 CHIHAYA MARU, she was registered in the IJN in Aug ’42 as an auxiliary transport. She was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine in Nov ’43.
