At 0520, sights British cargo ship MARY MOLLER (later KAIKO MARU). At 0620, a boarding party comes aboard that ship. At 0720, ship is instructed to resume her course. At 1220, MARY MOLLER is seized and her crew captured at Qiqu Liedao Island. At 1420, they are transferred to DAIGEN MARU No. 7.
Currently assigned to Shanghai Special Base Force, 8th Warning Corps, 14th Gunboat Division under Navy’s telegram No. 153. On patrol duties about 100 nautical miles S of Hong Kong.

29 January 1942:
Cargo ship FUYO MARU tows IJA transport NICHIREN MARU towards Jiu Shan Islands. Arrives there later that day.
30 January 1942:
Departs Jiu Shan Islands on patrol duties and arrives back there later in the day.

About 20 nautical miles W of Jinsen, Chosen (now Incheon, South Korea). About 0100, LtCdr (later Rear Admiral-Ret) John E. Lee's (USNA ‘30) USS CROAKER (SS-246) running on the surface detects a ship on radar. After closing the target, Lee fires a spread of four torpedoes and scores one hit on DAIGEN MARU No. 7, blowing off her stern. Dead in the water and abandoned by her crew, the transport is finished off by another spread of two torpedoes with one hit obtained. She sinks at 37-30N, 125-50E with the loss of 13 crewmen.
