HOSEI MARU Class Auxiliary Oiler

(Prewar Dutch tanker POSEIDON, later HOSEI MARU)

>Completed as a tanker in 1914 for Scheepvaart Maatschappij, Willemstad, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. POSEIDON was in service with Nederlandsch Indische Tankstoomboot (N.I.T.) Maatschappij from 1921-1942. In 1942, after the Japanese invasion, POSEIDON was scuttled to avoid capture and sunk off Tjilatjap, Java. In ‘43, she was refloated by the Japanese, repaired and renamed HOSEI MARU. In Apr’45 she was sunk by a Dutch submarine.
