Itsukushima Class Minelayer

Completed in 1929, the ITSUKUSHIMA was a purpose-built minelayer. She was the first Japanese warship to be equipped solely with diesel engines and the first to be fitted with an Oertz rudder. She participated in the Sino-Japanese war in China and the invasion of Dutch Borneo and was later used as a transport. The ITSUKUSHIMA was torpedoed and sunk in the Java Sea in October 1944.
