Completed in 1945 as a coastal minelayer/escort vessel just prior to
the end of the war, KAMISHIMA did not see action. She and sister
AWASHIMA, completed in 1946, both served as demobilization transports
with the Allied Repatration Service.
7 other planned units were cancelled in 1945 before being laid
down.
