After KENSHO MARU joins convoy No. 4724 consisting of IJN transports CHIHAYA (ex Dutch TJISAROEA) and OKITSU MARUs escorted by destroyer YUGIRI and kaibokan OKI, SHUKO MARU and KYO MARU No. 8 to Saipan. They arrive at Saipan later that day.

1 August 1943:
Arrives at Yokosuka. Transfers later in the day to Yokohama.

3 August 1943:
Transfers back to Yokosuka.

7 August 1943:
Transfers to Yokohama again.

26 August 1943:
Transfers back to Yokosuka.

2 September 1943:
Departs Yokosuka escorted by auxiliary subchasers CHa-9, CHa-16, CHa-17, CHa-31 and CHa-32.

5 September 1943:
Arrives at Chichi-Jima.

6 September 1943:
Departs Chichi-Jima still with the same escorts.

10 September 1943:
Arrives at Saipan.

At 1100, departs Yokosuka in convoy No. 3113 also consisting of auxiliary transports KIMISHIMA and SHOEI MARUs and SHINSEI MARU No. 18, requisitioned transports (B-AK) YAMAKUNI and TSUNESHIMA MARUs escorted by destroyer IKAZUCHI and kaibokan HIRADO. Arrives at Tokuyama later in the day.

14 November 1943:
The convoy departs Tokuyama for Truk.

23 November 1943:
At 0900, arrives at Truk. SHINSEI MARU No.18 had straggled slightly and was met by auxiliary minelayer KINJO MARU.

14 December 1943:
At 1220, departs Truk for Kwajalein in convoy No. 5142 also consisting of auxiliary transport SHOEI MARU escorted by subchaser CH-29.

19 December 1943:
At 1400, arrives at Kwajalein. At 2244, SHOEI MARU is hit and heavily damaged in a major air attack on the Atoll.

20 December 1943:
SHOEI MARU sinks. Later that day, in another airstrike by 16 Consolidated B-24 “Liberators”, KENSHO MARU is hit by bombs and heavily damaged and unnavigable.

3 January 1944:
Departs Kwajalein towed by auxiliary transport YOSHIDA MARU, and arrives later that day at Roi-Namur.

29 January 1944:
Departs Roi-Namur for Truk, towed by requisitioned transport (B-APK) MOMOKAWA MARU.

4 February 1944:
Arrives at Truk.

E 4-17 February 1944:
Undergoes repairs in Truk’s Repair Anchorage located W of Dublon and N of Fefan Islands.

17 February 1944: American Operation "Hailstone" - The Attack on Truk:
Vice Admiral (later Admiral) Marc A. Mitscher’s (USNA ’10) Task Force 58's five fleet carriers and four light carriers, supported by six battleships, ten cruisers and 28 destroyers, launch air attacks on airfields, shore installations and ships in the lagoon. Mitscher launches 30 strikes of at least 150 aircraft each. The strikes are launched about every hour for two days. Still under repairs, KENSHO MARU is hit by torpedoes and bombs and sinks at 07-23N, 151-51E taking down six of her crew.

17-18 February 1944:
Task Force 58 sinks 31 transports and 10 naval vessels (two cruisers, four destroyers and four auxiliary vessels), destroys nearly 200 aircraft and damages severely about 100 more. Truk is eliminated as a major fleet anchorage for the IJN.

10 November 1944:
Removed from the Navy’s list under internal order No. 1258.

Postwar:
KENSHO MARU’s wreck is lying upright with a 20 degree port list and is in relatively good shape. A deck gun (Type uncertain) can be observed at the bow.
