KOTO MARU No. 2 GO Class Auxiliary Transport

(KOTO MARU prewar)

This class consists of KOTO MARU, being renamed KOTO MARU No. 2 GO in ’41, TAMASHIMA, EIFUKU, KOSEI, SHIGANOURA, SUMANOURA, TAGONOURA and TAIFUKU MARUs. They were completed between Jun ’37 and Dec ’42 for various shipping companies. All but TAIFUKU MARU were requisitioned by the IJN. KOTO, TAMASHIMA and KOSEI MARUs were converted to auxiliary transports, EIFUKU MARU to an auxiliary gunboat, SUMANOURA MARU to an auxiliary netlayer and TAGONOURA MARU to an auxiliary collier/oiler. SHIGANOURA MARU served as a general requisitioned transport. TAIFUKU MARU was requisitioned by the IJA. All were sunk by US warships between Jan ’42 and Feb ’45.
