London Maru Class Transport

(LONDON MARU , prewar)


This class consisted of two ships. LONDON MARU was completed as a passenger-cargo ship in 1922 for the Osaka Shosen Kaisha (OSK) Line. Sister PARIS MARU was also completed for OSK in 1922.

LONDON MARU was requisitioned by the Imperial Army in '41 and served as an attack transport for the Invasion of Malaya. In Apr '44, she was bombed and sunk off Shortland Islands, Bougainville by USAAF B-17 heavy bombers

Prewar, PARIS MARU sank off the coast of Africa in '34.
