OKITSU MARU -Class Auxiliary Transport

(OKITSU MARU prewar)

OKITSU and ONOE MARUs were completed in ‘39-40 for Nippon Yusen K.K. Both were requisitioned in Aug-Sept ‘41 by the IJN. OKITSU MARU was converted to an auxiliary transport and ONOE MARU to an auxiliary ammunition ship. Both were torpedoed and sunk by American submarines, ONOE MARU, NW Kavieng, New Ireland, in Nov ’43 and OKITSU MARU, N Ponape, Carolines in Jan ‘44.
