Completed in 1933, SARUSHIMA was a dual-pupose coastal light minelayer and escort vessel. In 1943-1944, her minelaying rails were removed and she was fitted with depth charge racks. SARUSHIMA was sunk off Chichi-Jima by Task Force 58's aircraft in July 1944.
