TENRYU MARU Class Auxiliary Transport

(TENRYU MARU prewar)

This class consists of TENRYU, SHINRYU, FUSHIMI, SANKO, KAMIKAZE MARUs and SHINSEI MARU No. 6 completed between Dec ’36 and Oct ‘38 for various shipping companies. All were requisitioned; FUSHIMI and SANKO MARUs by THE IJA as Army transports No. 287 and No. 394, the others by the IJN: TENRYU and SHINRYU MARU were converted to auxiliary transports, KAMIKAZE MARU to an auxiliary destroyer tender and SHINSEI MARU No. 6 to an auxiliary collier/oiler. All were sunk from various causes between Aug ’42 and May ’44.
