Zenyo Maru Class Auxiliary Anti-Aircraft Transport

(ZENYO MARU, prewar)


ZENYO MARU was completed as a cargo ship in 1936 for Toyo Kisen, K.K. Requisitioned by the Imperial Army in '41, she served as an AA transport for the Japanese invasions of Malaya, Ambon and Timor and was part of the aborted Midway Island invasion force. In Aug '42, ZENYO MARU was sunk off Malaya by a Dutch submarine. ZENYO MARU's sister was KEIYO MARU.
