25 May 1944:

Completed at Maizuru; assigned same date to Desron 11, Combined Fleet, for training. Ship's captain: Commander Sakuma Eiji [50] (prev. C.O. TAMANAMI).

29-30 June:

Transport run from Yokosuka to Chichi-jima.

15 July:

Assigned to Desdiv 41 (SHIMOTSUKI, FUYUZUKI), Desron 10, Third Fleet.

15-17 July:

Transport run from Kure to Okinawa.

29 July-4 August:
Escorted ZUIHO out of Yokosuka covering convoy to Chichi-jima, then back to Kure.

21-25 September:

Docked at Yokosuka.

12 October:

Medium damage: while escorting OYODO from Yokosuka to the Inland Sea, torpedoed by USS TREPANG (SS-412); bow and forward gun turret damaged.

14 October-20 November:

Docked at Kure for repairs.

15 October:
Commander Sakuma promoted to Captain.

23-30 November:

Escorted JUNYO on transport mission from Kure via Mako to Manila.

1-9 December:

Escorted JUNYO from Manila to Mako (3 December), then escorted JUNYO and HARUNA from Mako to Sasebo.

December 1944-March 1945:

Upkeep and training in the Inland Sea. Light damage: on 31 January from grounding on a sandbar near Oita; repaired at Kure.

23-27 February:
Docked at Kure for repairs.

1 March:
Captain Sakuma (to Comdesdiv 43) relieved by Commander Yamana Hiroo [55] (prev. C.O. KASUMI).

20 March:
Commander Yamana promoted to Captain.

6-7 April:

Escorted YAMATO from Inland Sea on attack mission towards Okinawa. Rescued YAMATO survivors including senior fleet staff to become command ship for rescue operations; later removed survivors from KASUMI and scuttled with torpedoes. Light damage: in attacks by aircraft of TF 58 due to rockets and strafing; 12 dead and 12 injured; repaired at Sasebo.

1 June:
Desdiv 41 reassigned to Escort Squadron 31, Combined Fleet; arrived same date in Moji, through end of war.

20 August:

Heavy damage: hit mine at Moji, severing stern: surrendered unrepaired and without armament.

20 November 1945:

Removed from Navy List. Later used as breakwater at Wakamatsu; later broken up.
