23-26 October: Battle of Leyte Gulf:
Escorted Admiral Kurita's 1st Diversion Attack Force. In Battle off Samar on 25 October was at rear of fleet so played no role in battle. On 26 October assisted sinking NOSHIRO and removed Comdesron 2 (Rear Admiral Hayakawa Mikio [44]), later transferred to YAMATO.
27-29 October:
Refueled at Coron, then to Brunei.
4 November:
Arrived in Manila from Brunei to assist in Leyte troop transport operations.
9-11 November:
Escorted troop convoy TA No. 3 from Manila to Ormoc. Sunk: by aircraft of TF 38 on 11 November in Ormoc Bay, west of Leyte (10-50 N, 124-35 E); 63 killed, 42 injured. ASASHIMO rescued 167 survivors, including Comdesdiv 32 (Captain Oshima Ichitaro [50]) and Commander Motokura.

Removed from Navy List.
