Departed Truk escorting ZUIHO and UNYO to Yokosuka, then escorted torpedoed UNYO to Saipan; later rejoined ZUIHO and escorted into Yokosuka on 23 January.

Sunk: torpedoed by USS HARDER (SS-257) near Tawitawi, 35 miles east of Borneo (04-43 N, 120-03 E). Blew up and sank with 208 killed, including Comdesdiv 32 (Captain Orita) and Commander Shimizu; 45 survivors rescued by URAKAZE.
