TECHNICAL DATA
Description: Single-engined twin-float reconnaissance seaplane.
All-metal structure with stressed-skin covering, wooden wingtips and tailplane,
and fabric-covered control surfaces.
Accommodation: Crew of two in tandem enclosed cockpits.
- Powerplant:
- One Mitsubishi MK8A Kinsei 51 fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radial,
rated at 1,300 hp for take-off, 1,200 hp at 3,000 m and 1,100 hp at 6,200
m, driving a three-blade constant-speed metal propeller (prototypes and
early production aircraft).
- One Mitsubishi MK8D Kinsei 54 fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radial,
rated at 1,300 hp for take-off, 1,200 hp at 3,000 m and 1,100 hp at 6,200
m, driving a three-blade constant-speed metal propeller (late production
aircraft).
- One Mitsubishi MK8P Kinsei 62 fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radial,
rated at 1,560 hp for take-off, 1,340 hp at 2,100 m and 1,190 hp at 5,800
m, driving a three-blade constant-speed metal propeller (E16A2 prototype).
- Armament:
- Two wing-mounted 7.7 mm Type 97 machine-guns and one flexible rear-firing
