Description: Two-seat land-based intermediate trainer (K5Y1, K5Y4 and K5Y5) or twin-float seaplane intermediate trainer (K5Y2 and K5Y3). Mixed construction.
Accommodation: Pilot and instructor in tandem open cockpits.
- One Hitachi Amakaze 11 nine-cylinder air-cooled radial, rated at 340 hp for take-off and 300 hp at sea level, driving a two-blade wooden propeller (K5Y1 and K5Y2).
- One 515 hp Hitachi Amakaze 21 nine-cylinder air-cooled radial, rated at 515 hp for take-off and 480 hp at 1,500 m, driving a two-blade wooden propeller (K5Y3).
- One 480 hp Hitachi Amakaze 21A nine-cylinder air-cooled radial, rated at 480 hp for take-off and 450 hp at 1,500 m, driving a two-blade wooden propeller (K5Y4).
- One 515 hp Hitachi Amakaze 15 nine-cylinder air-cooled radial, rated at 515 hp for take-off and 450 hp at sea level, driving a two-blade wooden propeller (K5Y5).
