Description: Single-engined float seaplane fighter. All-metal
construction.
Accomodation: Pilot in enclosed cockpit.
- Powerplant:
- One Mitsubishi MK4D Kasei 14 fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radial,
rated at 1,460 hp for take-off, 1,400 hp at 2,700 m and 1,260 hp at 6,100
m, driving two contra-rotating two-blade metal propellers (first prototype).
- One Mitsubishi MK4C Kasei 13 fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radial,
rated at 1,460 hp for take-off, 1,420 hp at 2,000 m and 1,300 hp at 6,000
m, driving a three-blade metal propeller (second and subsequent prototypes
and early production aircraft).
- One Mitsubishi MK4E Kasei 15 fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radial,
rated at 1,530 hp for take-off, 1,400 hp at 2,600 m and 1,280 hp at 6,000
m, driving a three-blade metal propeller (late production aircraft).
- Armament:
- Two fuselage-mounted 7.7 mm Type 97 machine-guns and two wing-mounted
20 mm Type 99 Model 1 cannon.
