In 1908, KAMO MARU was completed as a passenger-cargo liner for Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), K.K. Her sisters were HIRANO, MIYAZAKI, KITANO, ATSUTA and MISHIMA MARUs. HIRANO and MIYAZAKI MARUS KAMO MARU were torpedoed and sunk in World War One. KITANO, ATSUTA and KAMO MARUs were sunk in the Pacific War.
